Applications are currently available for the Confucius Institute Scholarship 2023 (CIS Scholarship 2023). We will go over the Confucius Institute Scholarship, its benefits, and the application process in depth in this article.

International students are invited to apply for the fully funded Confucius Institute Scholarship 2023/2024. More than 150 Chinese universities are offering this scholarship to study Chinese language and culture. Tuition and accommodation fees, medical insurance, and a monthly stipend for personal expenses are all covered by the CIS scholarship 2023.

Application Deadline: If you want to start in September, you have until the beginning of May (typically day 1) to apply, and if you want to start in March, you have until the beginning of November.

Students from all across the world apply for these scholarships. The Confucius Institute is a government organization whose mission is to promote Chinese language and culture around the world.

Confucius Institute Scholarships are available for certain PhD studies, research visits, international conference participation, and Chinese language and culture courses. If you’re looking for scholarships for postgraduates and researchers, here is the place to go.

Confucius Institute Scholarship 2023 Benefits

Tuition and accommodation fees (in a university dormitory, in a room shared with another student), basic medical insurance, and a monthly stipend for personal needs are included in the Confucius Institute scholarship, which is divided as follows:

  • BTCSOL students or students enrolled in a Chinese language and culture course receive ¥2,500 per month (about 350 USD per month).
  • MTCSOL students receive ¥3,000 per month (about 420 USD per month).

The notion of scholarship holders living off campus (rather than in university residences) has recently been examined. In certain instances, the Confucius Institute provides a monthly rental allowance of ¥700 in addition to the monthly allowance.

In the event of multi-year scholarships, the Confucius Institute evaluates the beneficiaries’ qualifications on an annual basis, requiring exceptional performance in order to renew the complete financing for the subsequent year. If the student’s grades are below the national average, the Confucius Institute will not renew the scholarship or, in some situations, will only provide half financing (which covers all expenses except the monthly allowance for personal expenses). The Confucius Institute may also cover the costs of your international arrival and departure flights to and from China, depending on your home country.

Confucius Institute Scholarship 2023 Requirements

The documents and qualifying requirements for the Confucius Institute Scholarship are as follows:

  1. Have no Chinese origins and are in good health. If you plan to study in China for more than six months, you must demonstrate that you are in good physical and mental health before your residency permit may be processed. For this, you must present a duly completed copy of the official Chinese medical form or Foreigner Physical Examination Form once you arrive at your target university (it is not a needed document during the application period).
  2. Applicants must be between the ages of 16 and 35 (however this can be extended to 45 years for those who can show that they are currently employed as Chinese teachers at the time of application). Undergraduate scholarship applicants must be under the age of 20.
  3. It is necessary to obtain a Chinese language degree (written and oral HSK and, in some cases, BCT and oral BCT are also accepted). This criterion varies depending on the kind of scholarship. For example, to be eligible for a scholarship to study Chinese language and culture at an academic level, you must have a minimum of 180 points on the written HSK3 and a minimum of 60 points on the oral HSK. Click here to see the complete language requirements.
  4. Minimum requirements: Delivering the diploma and academic record of undergraduate education is required for the MTCSOL scholarship. You must demonstrate that you have completed your high school education in order to be considered for the BTCSOL scholarship or Chinese language classes. If you don’t have this document in either English or Chinese, you’ll need to provide a sworn translation in one of those languages.
  5. In the case of scholarship applicants who want to study a Chinese course or BTCSOL, one letter of recommendation is required, and in the case of MTCSOL scholarship applicants, two letters are required. The letters must be signed by the person in charge at the Confucius Institute where you applied for the scholarship.
  6. Applicants who can show that they have a job as a Chinese Language professor after completing their master’s degree studies in China will be given preference for the MTCSOL scholarship.
  7. You have never studied in China before if you are applying for a one-semester or four-week scholarship.

Note: Before the scholarship, you will be expected to write a short motivation letter that outlines your reasoning and expectations as part of the online application process (about 300 words).
