Eligibility Requirements

  • English is a required language.
  • All countries in the world are eligible.
  • A first or undergraduate degree from an authorized institution or university, or its equivalent: Applicants enrolled in undergraduate degree programs must be on schedule to complete all degree requirements by August 1 of the Schwarzman Scholars enrollment year. There are no requirements for a specific field of undergraduate study; all fields are welcome. However, applicants must articulate how participating in Schwarzman Scholars will help them develop their leadership potential within their field, regardless of undergraduate major.
  • Minimum Age Requirement: As of August 1 of their Schwarzman Scholars enrollment year, candidates must be at least 18 but not yet 29 years old.
  • The ability to communicate in English: All teaching will be done in English, therefore applicants must have a strong command of the language. Official English proficiency test scores must be submitted with the application if the applicant’s native language is not English. The following tests are acceptable:
    • Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL PBT). A minimum score of 600 is required.
    • English as a Foreign Language Test on the Internet (TOEFL iBT). A minimum score of 100 is required.
    • The International English Language Testing System (IELTS). A minimum of 7 is required.

Applicants who graduated from an undergraduate institution where English was the major language of instruction for at least two years of their academic degree are exempt from this requirement. Applicants who have studied in English for two or more years at the Master’s degree level or higher will also be exempt from the requirement. The complete eligibility conditions can be found here.
