Stipendium Hungaricum Fully Funded Scholarship 2023

International students are invited to apply for the fully funded Stipendium Hungaricum Scholarship program 2023-2024. Stipendium Hungaricum Scholarship will cover tuition expenses, a monthly stipend of HUF 43,700, a monthly housing contribution of HUF 40,000, and medical insurance for up to HUF 65,000 per individual each year.

The scholarship seeks to support the internationalization and continuous development of Hungarian higher education, to build academic and research community international relations, and to promote the good reputation and competitiveness of Hungarian higher education around the world.

Hungary Government Scholarship | Fully Funded

The initiative, which was established by the Hungarian government in 2013, is overseen by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade and managed by the Tempus Public Foundation.

It is based on bilateral education agreements between Hungary and the governments of the sending countries, and it is currently accessible in around 70 countries across five continents, drawing over 5000 international students each year. More than 500 full degree programs are available to applicants, encompassing all sectors of higher education at all levels of education, including part-time and doctorate programs.

Stipendium Hungaricum Scholarship Benefits

The following benefits are provided by the Stipendium Hungaricum Scholarship:

  • Payment of the tuition fee is waived
  • Contribution to living expenses in Hungary of HUF 43,700 (about EUR 130) each month for 12 months till completion of education.
  • Doctoral level: according to current Hungarian legislation, the monthly scholarship amount is HUF 140,000 (approximately EUR 450) for the first phase of education (4 semesters) and HUF 180,000 (approximately EUR 580) for the second phase (4 semesters) – for a period of 12 months per year, until the completion of studies.   • For the length of the scholarship, a free dormitory place or a monthly payment of HUF 40,000 will be provided.
  • Please note that if the student does not live in the dormitory, the HUF 40,000/month is a contribution to the rental costs, and in larger cities – particularly the capital city – this payment may not be sufficient to cover the entire rental cost.
  • Health care services in accordance with Hungarian law (Act No. 80 of 1997, national health insurance card) and additional medical insurance for up to HUF 65,000 (about EUR 205) per person per year.

Stipendium Hungaricum Scholarship Eligible Countries

The Stipendium Hungaricum Scholarship is based on effective bilateral educational cooperation agreements between the Ministry of Human Capacities of Hungary and the partner’s Ministry responsible for higher education. Candidates must meet all of the following Stipendium Hungaricum Scholarship eligibility criteria to be considered for Hungarian Government Scholarships:

Azerbaijan Government Scholarship | Fully Funded | Application Process

Stipendium Hungaricum Scholarship Application Documents include:

  • Stipendium Hungaricum Scholarship Application Form
    • on the online application form, applicants must fill out and preserve all relevant information in English.
    • a recent photograph of the candidate (taken not earlier than 2 years before the submission of the application).
    • those applying for partial (exchange) studies must specify the duration (1 or 2 semesters) and start date (September or February) of their study.
  • Letter of Motivation: One page minimum, Times New Roman 12 point font size letters.
  • Proof of language proficiency and translations in the chosen study program’s language or in Hungarian
    • Original proof of language proficiency scanned and translated, with a minimum level established by the Host Institution.
    • If the student completed his or her prior level of studies in the language of the chosen study program, a proof that the language of education was the same as the language of the study program that the applicant is now applying for can be uploaded.
  • School certificates and translations in the chosen study program’s language or in Hungarian
    • Bachelor’s degree programs: a scanned copy of the original secondary school diploma or equivalent, as well as translations.
    • Full-time master’s programs require a scanned copy of the original bachelor’s degree certificate or equivalent, as well as translations.
    • One-tier master’s level full-time programs: a scanned copy of the original secondary school diploma or equivalent, as well as translations.
    • Doctoral level: scanned copy of genuine master’s degree diploma or equivalent, as well as translations
    • Non-degree, Hungarian language preparatory programs: scanned copy of secondary school diploma and translations
    • Non-degree, specialisation programs: scanned copy of degree certificate and translations as necessary by the host school.
    • On all study levels, a scanned copy of the original certificate of student status issued by the current higher education institution where the applicants is enrolled, as well as their translations.
    • Only if the copy of the original document is not in the language of the chosen study program or in English must translations be attached.
  • Transcript of Records and translations in the chosen study program’s language or in Hungarian
    • Original transcripts of all academic semesters or school years completed during previous studies (at the highest level of education in which the student has participated), as well as their translations.
    • Only if the original document is not in the language of the chosen study program or in Hungarian must translations be included.
  • Medical Certificate
    • A scanned copy of a medical certificate stating that you are in good health, issued no sooner than November 15, 2022.
    • A physician must issue and sign certificates to prove that the applicant is free of the following illnesses: AIDS, Hepatitis A, B, and C, or any other epidemic disease
  • Identification Document
    • If the candidate already has a passport, he/she should upload a scan of the passport.
    • If the applicant does not yet have a passport, a scanned copy of any document that can be used to prove the applicant’s identity should be uploaded (e.g. national ID card).
  • Acceptance of the Application Statement in the Online System
    • The “Statement for Application” must be accepted by all applicants.
    • Because only the online system can accept the statement, scanned and signed copies should not be posted.
    • After registering, the statement shows in the online application system, and all candidates must accept it in order to submit their application.

  • Recommendation Letters
    • Two signed letters of recommendation from former or current academic tutors or supervisors of the candidate.

How to Apply for Stipendium Hungaricum Scholarship

How can I apply for Stipendium Hungaricum Scholarship? To apply for this scholarship, please follow the steps below in order:

  1. Choose your preferred program: The study fields that are available vary by partner country. You can either check the study fields available for your nation on the SH website or start an application through the DreamApply system and choose the appropriate study program. Here is a list of sending partners and study fields that are qualified.
  2. Contact your sending partner: Applications must also be filed to the sending partner’s relevant authorities. Each sending partner’s dates and procedures for submitting application materials may vary. Inquire with your sending partner (the local Hungarian Embassy, associated ministry, council, etc.) about their specific procedures.
  3. Create an account and upload your documents: An online application system is used to process the application. There are 29 institutions and colleges to choose from (almost 600 educational programs), however just two options are available. Make sure the programs you choose are relevant to your field of study. If you apply for a doctorate, keep in mind that you will need to select a supervisor. Depending on your academic level and country, other documents may be required. These prerequisites can be found in the “Documents” section.
  4. Application deadline: You must submit your application by the deadline. Before submitting your application, please double-check that all required papers are attached and that all relevant fields are correctly filled out. Please see the top of the page for the deadline!
  5. Nomination list of sending partners: By the end of February, sending partners will nominate the top applicants. Nominated applications will be delivered to the selected Hungarian higher education institutions.
  6. Hungarian Universities Entrance Exam: Universities will contact nominated applicants directly to establish a date for the entrance exams, which will take place between the middle of March and the end of May. For your application to be considered for the final list of scholarship grantees, your exam scores must be at least 56 out of 100.
